Lockwood Walks Away from Crash
MagWeb.com CEO Russ Lockwood walked away from a car crash that totalled his car. I stopped at a red light and the truck behind me didn't. The impact turned the back of my Saturn SL-1 into an accordian and shot me across the intersection. Fortunately, no cross traffic hit me and the driver's compartment stayed intact. Aside from a couple sore spots and a case of neck strain (so that's what whiplash feels like), I walked away. Give Saturn engineers credit for constructing a crumple zone that crumpled. It seemed to impress the police officer who arrived. It even impressed the auto body shop that looked at the car. I guess that's some sort of bragging rights--although some that I prefer not to repeat. By the way, wearing a seatbelt definitely helped.
I'm looking forward to Historicon this year, mostly to see some old friends and meet new ones. When you walk away from something like the above, it makes such activities as Historicon a much more important part of life. I look forward to seeing you all there.
