Gordon Craig for Univ. of Pennsylvania Press
This is a reprint of the 1964 book and it stands up well to the years (certainly well worth reading alongside Wawro). Craig’s approach is rather less excitable than Wawro’s but the story of the Austrians storm column attacks suffering at the hands of the Dreyse armed Prussians is just as poignant. The bravery of the kaiserliks is impressive but the Prussians were (usually) made of sterner stuff and fought on. Benedek comes over as much less of fool under Craig’s eye.
