Remember the Maine,
To Hell With Spain

Booklet

by Bill Rutherford

Written by Greg Novak, and available from Ulster Imports, Champaign, IL, this is an 84 page digest with several maps and drawings, ph, $7.00.

This interesting little book is a wargamer's guide to the land campaigns of the Spanish-American War. Novak approaches this war in a logical manner, briefly describes the varied revolutions and insurgencies preceding the Spanish American War, the armies involved in the war (Spanish, Cuban, and American), and the prosecutiuon of the war itself. Various organization tables detail the most obscure of the Cuban and Spanish troop formations. The US invasion of Puerto Rico is described, with attendant orders of battle. Appendices provide basic rules modifications for Johnny Reb (produced by Game Designers Workshop, of Bloomington, IL) to allow those rules to be used to fight Spanish-American War battles. I've not tried the modifications, but they read as if they should work. Novak winds up this work with an extensive bibliography for the period.

If you have even the mildest interest in the Spanish-American War, you can't go wrong. For the price, you get an inordinately large amount of information, well written and presented!
