Stone Mountain Miniatures recently redesigned their extensive American Revolution range for the second time. As much of my own AMR collection consists of their older figures, I am pleased to report that the new figures are very similar to the old. The new figures are of the same well proportioned, true 25mm size. They measure 25mm from bottom of base to hairline on forehead. They're quite a bit thinner than Minifigs or Rafm, but all will fit within the same army. The metal is pliable enough for easy conversions. Casting is very good with little flash. The new figures have much detail including buttons. The infantry have packs. The historical accuracy of the uniforms represented remains excellent. The best redesign is the Hessian figure. I've seen the grenadier, and it is great with an imposing mitre cap and correct German equipage. The new range doesn't have interchangeable heads. One nice touch is the new standard bearers which come with molded flagstaff and a separate metal flag with scored design for British. One has the choice of using the metal flag or making a paper one. This range is extensive with no less than fifteen different infantry command sets. There are also approximately 36 infantry sets, 10 mounted sets along with 4 sets of dismounted cavalry. Casualty figures of all types are available. The five different guns are as good as any on the market. The British style gun carriage with its side boxes is perfect. In addition to this redesigned range, the older range with its interchangeable heads remain available. A great advantage that this manufacturer obtains is the extent of the range enables the wargamer to create any American Revolution unit and still maintain the internal variety that gives the American units that ragged look. Infantry are packed 6 for $3.50, cavalry 4 for $4.95, and guns are 2 for $3.95. Command packs contain 2 officers, 2 drummers, and 2 standard bearers for $3.50. This new "Flintlock" range is available from Stone Mountain Miniatures, P.O. Box 594, Dept. 61, Broomfield, CO 80020-0594, phone 303-4654246. They take Visa and Mastercard. More Reviews
