Wargames Foundry

25mm Marlburian

by Ken Bunger

A relatively new figure maker is Wargames Foundry known for their expanding ranges of superb 25mm English Civil War and Franco-Prussian War figures. Their latest venture is the beginning or a Marlburian range. Done in the same style as their previous ranges, this is their best yet (of course, I say that every time I see any of these guys' figures). I don't think it's possible to sculpt any more characteror detail into a 25mm figure, yet they remain quite easy to paint.

The figures are 29mm from the bottom of the base to the hairline. Their anatomy is excellent, having varied facial expressions without the overlylarge heads that plague some large 25mm figures. The full coats have many folds which make shading easy. The castings are free of flash. If there's any criticism, it's that the hard metal and sculpting style necessary to produce these little masterpieces preclude easy conversions.

There are twelve infantry currently available. These include two officers, an ensign, a sergeant, a drummer, a British grenadier (stiff mitre cap), a French grenadier (open brim hat) holding grenade, a casualty, a dismounted dragoon (tricorne) and three musketeers - standing, firing and advancing. Cavalry and artillery will be released in the future; and, if the company's track record remains, there will indeed be many exciting figures to follow. All castings have open coat skirts. The cartridge box bandolier is worn over the left shoulder with the sword hanging from the waistbelt on the left hip.

This firm's catalog consists of a number of sheets showing accurate line drawings of the figures. This is a great idea and, in a way, superior to poor quality photos. The figures are available from Wargames Foundry, 21 Villiers Road, Woodthorpe, Nottingham NG5 4FB, England. Castings are 35p each and add 50% for air mail postage. I've found this firm to offer very courteous and efficient service. Paymentcan bernadeby internatio, nal money order in pounds.
