1/285th Pewter Buildings

review by Bill Rutherford

Just in are 13 of GHQ's new pewter building sets. Needless to say, they're to the same standard as everything else put out by GHQ, i.e., precise, and well-made... The range includes nine rural buildings including a cottage, an Inn, several outbuildings, etc., selling in the $4.95 $8.95 range, and eight more urban buildings townhouses all - selling for between $6.95 and $8.95.

These are not the least expensive 1/285th scale buildings on the market but they're easily the most detailed. Most buildings consist of a main component/structure, with separate chimneys, awnings, etc. - don't be put off by the multiple parts - they go together in less time than it takes to describe and this allows for more detail to be incorporated into each. In model railroading terms, these buildings are what are called "foreground" models because they'll quickly draw the viewer's eyes away from the blobs of plaster at the back of the table... The range should be available from your local game shop. If not, visit GHQ's website at http://www.ghqmodels.com/and take a look under "Terrain Maker" - there are excellent pictures of all of the buildings that will give you a good idea of what you're spending your gaming dollars on... If you don't have internet access, you can contact GHQ at 28100 Woodside Road, Shorewood, MN 55331 or by phone at 612-374-2693 (they'll send you a nice catalog with pictures ... ) If you game in 1/285th scale, these are highly recommended!
