Essex

25mm Samurai

review by John Boehm

Six different figures from the Essex 25mm Samurai range were received for review. Unfortunately, I do not have the benefit of a price list or a reference list for the figures, but I will describe the figures received herein. The figures are 24H on the Barrett scale, except for KS 1 which is 26H. There was no flash, the figures are in active poses and have great facial detail. Scabbarded swords are separately cast, as are the pole arms that come with most of the figures.

KS 1 appears to be an officer or other higher ranking individual, holding his long two-handed sword in a relaxed position and apparently wiping off the blade. He is fully armored with a large helmet. KS2 is armored and helmeted, and holding up the head of a severed enemy, and carrying a pole arm. This figure is bared legged. KS7 is advancing at the run with a pole arm, fully armored and helmeted and also bare legged. KS9 is also in an advancing position, with body armor and wearing a type of soft hat strapped under the chin. He has leggings and is carrying a pole arm. KS12 is armored with a similar hat, and leggings, and is kneeling with a pole arm.

Last is KS 17, attacking with a two-handed pole arm in a swinging position. He is armored with leggings, and is bare headed with long flowing hair down his back. A very well animated figure. If these figures are an indication of the entire range it would appear to be an excellent range of figures. They are available from War Games, Box 278, Route 40 East, Triadelphia, West Virginia 26059-0278.
