review by Bill Rutherford
These are the Version 1.1 reprint of the original rules, published by Firebase Games and reviewed in these pages back in the Fall of 1995. Changes are virtually all cosmetic, consisting mainly of modernizing the type face, going from a one-column to a two-column page layout, and integrating illustrations (including those of the examples that originally appeared in the back of the book) into the text. The rules are still spiral-bound and there are still two pullout cards (also redesigned) and a sheet of uncut information counters (now in orange, not grey). The only changes to the rules found after a careful comparison were the omission of the point costs for field defenses and engineering works, and deletion of the index (boo!). These rules fit into the niche between skirmish games and battalion level games, with a squad comprised of a couple of fire groups and a model tank representing a single tank, and provide an interesting alternative to both Mein Panzer and the venerable Firefly. Overlord should be available from your local game shop for $18.98 or, directly from Brookhurst Hobbies at 12188 Brookhurst Street, Garden Grove, CA 92840 or at their website at http://www.brookhursthobbies.com.
