BP Casts

1/72nd Soviet Tank and A/C

review by Bill Rutherford

Just in are these two early WW II Soviet AFVs from BP Casts. The T26, RS-101, consists of two track sections, a hull, and a turret, all in resin, and a white metal gun barrel. The BA-6, RS-102, is similar, except that it comes with six wheels in lieu of the tracks. These are extremely simple models, designed specifically for gaming and as such, are bereft of many of the smaller details one would expect from a metal or styrene (or even scale quality resin) model.

Casting quality is workmanlike; components are on-register but finer detail is somewhat fuzzy and my samples had extensive bubbling in and around the details. Scale-wise they're variable. The T-26 is about 7mm too short, lengthwise, but it's within a millimeter or two of scale in both width and height, while the BA-6 is within a millimeter or two of proper scale in all dimensions. To their credit, these two do capture the "feel" of their prototypes they're clunky and stubby, just like the real ones... Painted and weathered they'll be quite presentable, I think... If you game WW II (or SCW or Finland ... ) in 20mm, you will probably want to check these out as BP Cast makes over 50 AFVs from most of the major WW II powers, as well as innumerable pieces of equipment and guns...

I'm not sure of pricing, as the samples weren't marked and their website lists no prices... I see these models at the various HMGS conventions on a regular basis, though, and seem to recall that their prices are reasonable for 20mm models... Check out their website at http://sites.netscape.net/bpcastincbp/bpcastinc2.html for a full list! They're not fancy but they'll do the job. Available from your local game shop, I think, or from one of several recommended dealers listed on the BP Cast website. Alternatively, contact them at BP Cast, Inc., 344 West Bullard Ave., Lake Wales, FL 33853, or email them at: bpcast@gte.net for pricing information.
