B&B Minitaures

20mm AMR

review by Scott Holder

The last time I played with 20mm AMR figures was with my venerable Airfix plastic guys from my impoverished youth. So I was somewhat surprised upon receiving some of B&Bs 20mm line. Measuring exactly 20M, the fit in perfectly with my Airfix guys and the paint doesn't flake off. Received for review were AR28, Hessian Grenadiers Advancing, AR41, British Legion Skirmishing, and AR48, Butler's Rangers Skirmishing. All figures had minimal flash although some of the bases were rather small and globular, thus needing work to make the casting stand on its own two feet. These figures are nicely detailed with the exception of the officers who appear a little less crisp than the line figures. But, the line figures are nice.

All three units have distinctive headgear that is very well done, particularly the Hessian's mitre cap. The British Legion and Butler' Rangers come in a range of poses and the figures are quite animate. I found the castings very well proportioned, particularly the muskets in relation to the height of the man. One of the British Legion figures has a separately cast arm to provide even more variety in pose. All in all, a very nice set of figures in a scale long overlooked in this period.

A pack of 20-23 figures cost $27.50 and is available from Brookluirst Hobbies 2188 Brookburst St, Garden Grove CA 92840, (714) 636-3585, www.brookhursthobbies.com, email: brookhobby@aol.com
