Review:

Battles of the
American Civil War

Scenario Book

by Dick Bryant

This is a set of 16 ACW scenarios covering the period 1861-1862. The scenarios are written for use with regimental based systems such as Johnny Reb, Star and Bars, etc. with two scenarios for Fire and Fury (which should also work for On To Richmond.). This seems strange as the two most popular rule sets are the later, it would seem that the mix should be just the opposite.

That said, the secenarios are well thought out and provide maps, T O & E, and victory conditions as well as a synopsis of how the historical battle progressed. In all this it is only marred by what are obviously free-hand drawn maps. The more complex ones become hard to decipher as a result. As this is the first of a promised series, I hope that the author, Daniel Jackson will take this critique to heart - clean up the maps and provide data that allow ALL the scenarios to be played with ALL the popular rule sets. Available for $14.95 from Wargames, Box 278, route 40 East; Triadelphia WV 26059
