20mm Spanish Civil War

by Bill Rutherford

I've several samples from Hotspur Miniatures' wide range of Spanish Civil War troops. They average just about 20mm from foot sole to eyeball, and are very slightly on the light side of medium heft. The samples are well proportioned - detail seems a bit soft on the unpainted figures, but really stands out once you apply primer. Their poses are good - nothing elaborate, just tired infantry. I am very impressed by the sheer variety of troop types available. A couple of the figures wear the distinctive Spanish helmet; one has a knit watchcap; the female troop and a rather tentatively advancing fellow wear 'gorillo' caps; still others wear peaked caps and forage caps; one even has what appears to be a French Adriane pattern helmet! All seem to wear the ubiquitous 'mono', a one piece coverall, typically with rolled sleeves. If you are interested in the Spanish Civil War in 20mm, take a closer look at these (Also, please contact me, care of the Editor - I need somebody knowledgeable who's interested in writing an article on wargaming the Spanish Civil War!) They're available at $10 for 20 infantry from the Historical Products Company, care of Patrick A. Condray, 8234 Kings Arm Drive, Alexzandria, VA 22308.
