Game Designers' Census

Redmond A. Simonsen

by Bill Stone

Current Employment: Vice President and Art Director of Simulations Publications, Inc.
Previous Gaming Employment: freelance projects for the original S&T (c. Wagner) and Avalon Hill (at that time there was no one else!)
Words of Wisdom: Presuming a certain amount of creativity on the part of any serious designer it is then fair to say that the difficulty on conceptualization and idea-generation is a trivial barrier - the greatest obstacle to realization of a project is the immense technical problem of development and execution - unfortunately, the accolades and attention focus on the surmounting of trivial barriers whereas the technical side is only noticed when flawed or incomplete.
Favorite Game of Own Design: StarForce (my firstborn)
Favorite Game of Another's Design: Panzergruppe Guderian
Design/Development Credits: Design: StarForce; After the Holocaust; BattleFleet Mars; Dixie; WorldKiller; Sorcerer; Development: PanzerBlitz; Empires of the Middle Ages; Cobra; plus final editorial development of virtually every SPI product. Art & PhysicalSystems Design: all SPI games and products.
