After years of gaming on tables with pool table flatness, perhaps with a little lichen and a house or two, and troops identically posed and uniformed, I have come to the point where I have put much more time into terrain than into painting figures. When I do paint, I like my Medievals to each be as individual as possible. I open by describing my prejudice so that you will understand when I say that Irregular Miniatures is doing some of the most exciting stuff in the hobby today. First, the troops: there is not much here that is not being done by other companies. The figures are nicely sculpted and the casting good; but these figures fall somewhere in the middle in quality; good, but not special. Except that they are all individuals! What a good chance to mix and match. Now you can have Medieval units that don't resemble a Prussian military parade! The thing that excites me the most, however, is the accessories that Irregular makes. These include: campfires, wagons, chests, pots, pans, as well as various torture devices. Everything to make your campsite complete. They even include WOMEN. And perhaps most useful of all, they are not naked dancing girls, Finally you can have a baggage area that does not look like some opiated sultan's harem. Finally there are man and horse casualty figures. Now while I am not a fan of "black" wargames, it does add flavor to the field to leave something on the spot where the fighting was fiercest. All in all I, for one, applaud Irregular's efforts in that they add just that much more color to the gaming table. Pick up a few and see if you don't agree. See their ad in this issue for address.
