25mm Castle Keep

reviewed by William Greenwald

One of the latest additions to the Greenfield Hobby Distributors line is a 25mm scale castle keep. The model is 12 in. wide by 12 in. deep by 5 in. high and is molded in plastic foam. It is of a well detailed, stone work style, with round and square battlements in opposite corners. It consists of two sections of equal heights; a base section that contains the portcullis door, and a top section with merlons and embrasures and a removable roof/floor. The removability of the upper section and the roof allows figures, etc., to be placed inside the keep walls. it is possible to assemble an internal floor plan togivethe model some additional realism. External to the keep is a ramp and drawbridge to facilitate entry over a moat.

Preparation of the keep for a paint job will include some trimming of flash from between the merlons. Flat grey acrylic paint and a wash of black will achieve reasonable results. The portcullis can be painted brown. Additional detailing, such as drawbridge chains, can be added by anyone industrious enough to do it, and will add to the model's overall realistic look.

All in all this castle keep is very well suited for any 25mm siege game.

The fort retails for $65.00 from Greenfield Hobby Distributors, 2350 Burdette, Ferndale, Ml 48228, or from many local mail order hobbyshops.
