25mm Zulu War

Connoisseur

by Bob Beattie

Connoisseur Figures has released more of their exciting range of figures for the Zulu War, 1878. Now available are all the figures from the Zulu list. They are well sculpted with excellent detail, every feather and tail is etched on the figure. There are as many poses as figures. Now some of the British figures are out. British infantry firing, at ready and, my favorite, loading. The latter is reaching into his cartridge box for a shell. The firing figure is drawing a bead on a very close target, the Martini-Henry is pointed downward a bit and the firer is taking careful aim. I anxiously await the rarely done dismounted figures of lancer, police and Boer. We also have two mounted figures, lancer officer with revolver and trooper charging.

The latter comes with no weapon so you will have to supply a wire lance. Given the brittleness of metal these days, this is the best way to handle pole arms. According to the list, trooper at rest, bugler, and three Natal native figures are also released. All the above are well sculpted, no flash, plenty of detail, and should paint up will with a black priming technique.

These figures are 28L on the Barrett scale; somewhat bigger than the Ral Partha Zulu range and just a tad larger than Wargames Foundry. In my opinion, they would mix in with these ranges if you want to expand an already existing collection. Price for the available foot figures is $1.00 singlely or $46 for a pack of 50; cavalry are $1.00 for rider and $1.45 for horse. Add 10% for p&p if order is under $75. * The Courier uses the Tobey Barrett Measurement [BM] System to simplify comparison of figure sizes. The number is the height in millimeters from the bottom of the figure's foot (top of base) to its eyes. The letter refers to the "heft" of the figure: L=light, M=medium, and H=heavy. Thus, Hs will fit in with other Hs and some Ms, but not Ls.
