The Reviewing Stand
by Bill Rutherford
Here are three officers - one USMC, one British para, and one German Afrika Korps (DAK). They measure 22M Barrett Measure. My first reaction was that their detailing was too subdued; then I realized that it was simply not exaggerated! After priming, their details stood out considerably - it's there and it's crisp; its just not overwhelming. I particularly like the para officer - he's wearing the appropriate camo smock and carries a slung tommygun. The USMC officer, wearing a tin hat from 1942, has his left arm in a sling (perhaps a bit too tightly) against his chest. The figures all had a bit of flash - nothing terminal, but enough to notice. These troops relatively light heft let them fit in not only with most of the generally heavier metal 20mm lines, but with the various plastic figure ranges, though theyre a pinch taller than either. The range is extensive - the catalog listed lots of US marines and sailors, Germans of all types, many Japanese, Italians (even Italian East Africa Colonial Infantry!), British, French, Soviets, and even Poles. Particularly useful are the wide range of heavy weapons - infantry guns, field pieces, and the like - and the fact that one can buy bags of heads (?!) to use in figure conversions. Raventhorpe Miniatures cost $.85 each (heavy weapons may run as high as ($5.75) and are available from your local gameshop or directly from the manufacturer at 2604 Knight Ave., Rockford, IL 61101. The number is the height in millimeters from the bottom of the figure's foot (top of base) to its eyes. The letter refers to the "heft" of the figure: L=light, M=medium, and H=heavy. Thus, Hs will fit in with other Hs and some Ms, but not Ls.
