The Reviewing Stand
by John Boehm
Essex has released ranges of Early Assyrians and New Assyrians. Both ranges include cavalry, chariots and a variety of infantry. The Early Assyrians including various allies have five different chariots, two cavalry and nine different infantry. The New Assyrians include two different chariots, five cavalry, 11 infantry and a command pack. The figures come in packs of eight foot, six foot command, four cavalry or three cavalry command and are $2.99 a pack. The sample figures were figures from the Early Assyrian range which included a heavy infantry spearman with large rectan gular shield and helmet, a heavy archer and a light to light medium javelinman. The figures are approximately 16M on the Barrett scale and generally cleanly cast with a minimum of flash. The details are excellent and with the exception of the light javelinman, who is in an active running pose, are in fairly static poses. They are available through Wargames, Box 278, Rt. East, Triadelphia, W. Virginia 26059-0278. More Reviews

The number is the height in millimeters from the bottom of the figure's foot (top of base) to its eyes. The letter refers to the "heft" of the figure: L=light, M=medium, and H=heavy. Thus, Hs will fit in with other Hs and some Ms, but not Ls.
