MagWeb.com Analysis

Well, that's pretty clear and convincing evidence that you enjoy an advert-free environment!

I notice a few enjoy adverts, and my guess is that they want the adverts appearing inside a magazine as opposed to banner ads, etc. Since the vast majority of our magazines are back issues, and these reach back into the 1960s, the commercial value of placing them inside our archive is, well, pretty low. I suppose it would be interesting in a nostalgic way to see such, but the effort would dramatically slow down our process. And I doubt it would convince any more folks to join.

25. Should MagWeb.com maintain its
"no-advertisement" in the archive policy?
Yes79.02%
No16.59%
No Answer4.39%

MagWeb.com Analysis

This is also a pretty clear call that MagWeb.com "premium cable channel" idea should remain intact. As you know, I compare MagWeb.com to a premium cable channel--you see the shows without the adverts.

26. If MagWeb.com accepted advertising in the archive, would you...
Ignore the ads like the rest of the web. 57.56%
Accept it reluctantly. 18.54%
Complain loudly and often, though remain a member. 10.73%
Quit outright! "No ads is No ads!" 5.37%
Encourage it! "I like ads!" 1.46%
No Answer6.34%

MagWeb.com Analysis

Wow! This is a surprise. About 80% say we should continue our advert-free environment, and then about 80% of you say it's OK. Hmmm. I guess if you're used to being charged for "basic cable plus" TV to get The History Channel and commercials appear inside the shows, it's not that much of a stretch....Then again, basic cable plus costs less than HBO et al.

Hmmm. We already have a Mall at MagWeb on the free side. Maybe we need something special inside the archive? Seems like a duplication, not to mention needing a sales force to keep up with advertisers and coding/inserting ads.

For now, the "no advert" policy will remain in effect.
