Yann le Bohec Editions de Rocher
A very good basic introduction to the Punic wars that goes a lot further than its title might suggest. The political, military and religious sides of the wars are all covered together with the economic and commercial elements. The author is not afraid to discuss military issues, and there are plenty of basic battle plans. I found his views interesting, and his exposure to non-anglophone archaeology useful. The text is in French.
