The Renaissance At War

Thomas Arnold for Cassell & Co

This book is one of the über-coffee-table series from Cassell. Although it is not exactly long on the text it has plenty of value. This is especially so with a clear text being very ably supported by maps and illustrations. The illustrations frequently showing telling details from contemporary paintings or tapestries rather than just cramming in the whole thing. The author clearly believes the professional warrior was not a complete fool something wargame designers are less certain about. The Anglo-Scottish Wars will provide better detail, but this will bring you up to speed less abruptly.
