Mex-Amer War Buildings

by Bob Marshall

If there exists, on this side of the Atlantic, a wargaming architect equivalent in stature to Great Britain's Ian Weekley, that person would have to be Doug Carroccio of Newport Richey, Florida.

Owning and operating the Miniature Service Center, Doug builds large tabletop structures that are an absolute joy to behold. Although many gamers may be aware of the extensive line of French and Indian War structures that Doug provides for a fee, he also has a line of buildings for the Mexican- American War period. At this time there is an extensive range of 16 differing buildings for use with the Mexican-American War period. These buildings are all well constructed and nicely detailed.

Various structures have been observed for sale by Doug and all are equally impressive. My own personal favorite is the local two story Cantina/Inn that has a very nice balcony extending over a first floor board walk. The structure immediately conjures up images of tabletop ambushes of marching Gringos by hostile Mexican guerrillas. An added bonus to these beautifully planned buildings is the ability forthe roofs of the structures to be removed. A very nice touch indeed.

If this reviewer had one criticism of these fine structures it would be their very size. Doug has apparently spent a great deal of time in insuring that the structures are in scale with 25mm wargaming figures, and he has accomplished his goal nicely. However, for those individuals who use HO similar scale building for your tabletop fights these buildings will not fit in and will easily dwarve their smaller cousins. If, however, the gamer wishes to have large buildings of outstanding quality gracing his table for this period, these are the ones to buy.

Doug, my hat is off to your fine product. These models are highly recommended. Buildings available from Miniature Service Center, 5910 River Rd., Newport Richey, FL 34652. (813) 842-7064.
