15mm Jacobite Ottoman Napleonics

by Ron Burr

SIMTAC, Inc. has now released the Jacobite 15mm Ottoman Empire Napoleonic range in the U.S. This fills a major gap in the coverage of major armies of the Napoleonic wars. While the Ottomans fought multiple wars with the Russians during the period around the Napoleonic era and even engaged the Emperor himself in Egypt and Palestine, figures for their troops have been unavailable. Their uniforms are quite distinctive, especially for headgear, and would be difficult to do as conversions.

The figures run about 17mm to the top of the head (20mm including tall headgear) and should mix well with other large "ll 5mm" figures. The figures are fairly cleanly cast but will need some cleanup forthe molding seams. Several of the figures sent for review have bent at the ankles, so they may prove to be prone to breakage if handled too roughly. None of the review figures have broken, so the metal alloy used may be flexible enough that this won't be a problem. The figures sent for review include Janissary Command TNO02 (2 different officers, 2 standard bearers, two serpent players (trumpeter equivalents)), Janissaries (TNO01), N EZAM+ JEDID (New Order) Infantry (TNO03), and T0PIJI Artillerists (TNO05).

These are the first from a range of 22 different packs included in the range. I don't have any references for Ottoman army uniforms so have not been able to check the uniforms for accuracy. The figures are quite similar in dress to Renaissance Ottomans and should be similarly colorful when painted. The Jacobite Ottoman Empire Napoleonic range is available from SIMTAC, Inc., 20 Attawan Rd., Niantic, CT 06357. The figures are packed 12 perpackage(6 command package) for $3.00 ($2.00 comand).
