Review by Jerry Lane
Viking forge continues to add models to its Minifleet line of warship miniatures. The Minifleet line includes many ships that no one else makes. The latest additions continue the expansion into the escort, support and cargo ships that are hard to find. The range covers the entire 20th century but the latest additions are focused on the Modern and WW2 periods. The modern range adds 13 ships for the Germans and Americans. The World War Two range adds British, French, Japanese and American ships ranging from minesweepers to the liners Queen Elizabeth and Normandie. Two World War Two packs were received for review; 3356 British Bangor class minesweeper and SB325 merchant cruiser Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi was a merchantman converted to an armed merchant cruiser by the Royal Navy and used as a convoy escort. She is famous for her fight against Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in November 1939. She was sunk but did provide enough time for the convoy to scatter and escape. The model is cast in one piece and moderately detailed. There was a bit of a molding line to clean off from the decking. Price is $4.95. Bangor is part of a large class of war-built minesweepers. These tiny workhorses served in many capacities and could easily appear as part of a convoy scenario. The models are cast in one piece with moderate detail and come five to a pack for $4.95. These ships are available from The Viking Forge, 1727 Theresa Lane, Powhatan VA 23139. You can get a complete listing from them.
