Castaway Arts

25mm Ancient Sumerians

Review by John Boehm

Castaway Arts, P O Box 7599, Cairns, 4870 Australia; www.castawayarts.com.au, has released a range of ancient Sumerians. The range consists of 14 different offerings, all infantry other than one priest figure and a Sumerian battle car. The figures are 25 M on the Barret scale. Submitted for review were slingers (SU 2), which consists of two poses, one loading and one throwing. Both are bare chested figures, well animated and cleanly cast. The archer (SU 1) consisted of a figure reaching for an arrow over his shoulder. Again he is bare chested, no helmet. The bow is separately cast. Presumably, since each type appears to have at least two poses, there is another archer figure as well.

The javelinmen (SU3) are also bare chested with beard. Again, there are two poses, one hurling a javelin, and one running. The javelins, again are separately cast. The battle car comes with four asses, each in a different pose. The battle car is in several pieces. There are also three crewmen with typical Sumerian helmets. One is obviously a driver, the other two are javelin or spearmen. The figures are very animated. Anyone interested in this era would be wise to look at these figures. They also make Old Kingdom Egyptians, gladiators, and camel nomads/Midinite Arabs. Footmen and riders are $.90 each; the battle care is $9.00.
