NavWar 1/300
WWI German Infantry

This bag of infantry, mounted on the familiar squad strips represent helmeted late-war German WW I infantry. Though advertised as having about 50 figures per bag, mine had 72 troops -- an error I'll not complain about! Navwar produces and distributes the Heroics & Ros line of 1/300th figures and vehicles and have added an ever increasing number of their own models, as well as modifications to and conversions on Heroics and Ros models, to the range under their own name.

These troops are an example of the latter. They appear to have started life as WW II Germans, but Navwar have added fixed bayonets and new backpacks to them, and have reorganized them so each strip contains an advancing squad (i.e., no MG-34s). I applaud this, as it increases the number and types of figures available to the gamer at (relatively) low cost to the manufacturer -- both parties come out ahead!

The figures measure 5.5MH (which is to say, just a bit heavy of medium) Barrett Scale, with good detail. Production quality is good. Theres just a small bit of flash to clean - I recommend running a file over them while they're still on their strips for ease of handling - Navwar also produces British and French WW I infantry, as well as a wide range of heavy weapons, vehicles, and aircraft. Priced at $4.90 per bag of infantry and $1.10 per vehicle, these miniatures should be available from your local game shop or Regal Miniatures, 609 W. Euclid Ave., Des Moines, IA 50313, for a catalog. Recommended for gamers into 1/300th scale WW I!- BILL RUTHERFORD

* The Courier uses the Tobey Barrett Measurement [BM] System to simplify comparison of figure sizes. The number is the height in millimeters from the bottom of the figure's foot (top of base) to its eyes. The letter refers to the "heft" of the figure: L=light, M=medium, and H=heavy. Thus, Hs will fit in with other Hs and some Ms, but not Ls.
