Viking Forge
Renaissance 15mm

This "new" line of 16th-17th century 15mm figures was once issued under the Asgard label, but are now being reintroduced with all brand-new molds. Viking Forge informs me that there will be 70 figures in production by August.

The first pack of figures contained 2 each of three German foot. Four of the figures hold Arquebusses and measure 18M Barrett Scale. They are well-proportioned, with excellent detail, facially as well as clothing-wise. They look to fit in with Essex figures. The figures are in two distinct uniforms. The first looks to be the usual 'generic' shot type, able to be used for ECW as well as TYW with slouch hat, pantaloons and stockings. The other casting, holding his piece at port arms, and wears an interesting bearskin hat with plume and cape! A really intersting character. Fianlly, two pikemen are included, marching, with morion helmets, breastplates and attached 15 foot pike. Not quite as well done as the firing figures, but interesting, nonetheless.

The next pack included three Early 16th century Lansknechts, one swinging a deadly two-handed sword, another firing and a third carrying a pike. All are again well animated and nicley posed. Also included is a mercenary Reiter. The figure itself is nicely done but the horse is woefully small, looking more like a Scottish pony than a continental mount. The third pack consisted of an early 16th century artillery piece and crew. This model is great. The crew are in a variety of poses, one carrying a csk of powder, others in the process of loading and a commander, looking very much like Christopher Columbus, oversees the rest. A very nice piece.

For a listing of these figures, write for a free catalog to Viking Forge, 1727 Theresa Ln., Powhatan, VA 23139. Guns are $2.00 each, foot, riders and horses are .30 each. -TERRY L. GORE

* The Courier uses the Tobey Barrett Measurement [BM] System to simplify comparison of figure sizes. The number is the height in millimeters from the bottom of the figure's foot (top of base) to its eyes. The letter refers to the "heft" of the figure: L=light, M=medium, and H=heavy. Thus, Hs will fit in with other Hs and some Ms, but not Ls.
