Celtic Cavalry


The figures received for review were two Celtic cavalry warriors with a jockey style helmet, bare and throwing javelins with separate shields and javelins on galloping horses. The figures are cleanly cast pewter, well detailed with no flash. The horses are well animated and the shields came in two separate versions to provide variety. The figures are approximately 22M on the Barrett Scale (although it is a little difficult to accurately measure riders). The separately cast javelins come packaged in a section of drinking straw to avoid breakage, a neat idea. Their Ancient Range consists of several second century AD Roman Legionnaires, auxiliaries, command figures and auxiliary cavalry, plus four different types of Celtic cavalry and a Celtic chariot. They indicate that artillery and barbarian infantry will be following in this range.

The manufacturers of this range indicate that these figures were designed to be fully compatible with plastic miniatures, and they do fit in very well with some of the current 1/72 scale plastic miniatures now on the market. Those with older collections of smaller 25MM figures and/or 20MM figures may also find them useful. In addition, they form a nice little range in their own right. I have always been partial to this scale and found these figures to be very appealing. The cavalry come two to a package of $3.75, the chariot for $7.95 and four infantry for $3.25. * The Courier uses the Tobey Barrett Measurement [BM] System to simplify comparison of figure sizes. The number is the height in millimeters from the bottom of the figure's foot (top of base) to its eyes. The letter refers to the "heft" of the figure: L=light, M=medium, and H=heavy. Thus, Hs will fit in with other Hs and some Ms, but not Ls.
