25mm Seven Years War

review by Ken Bunger

RSM has been releasing many new 25mm figures in both their Seven Years War and American War of Independence ranges. These ranges have been previously reviewed, so I don't need to go into great detail.

The figures are of the large 25mm variety being 28mm from foot to forehead. However, these figures are not bulky. They are, with few exceptions, anatomically superb. Their newest releases have recaptured the quality of the original line. The detail is raised, but rather fine which lends the figures to easy conversion. One of my favorite qualities is that most figures are not burdened with excess equipage thatwas usually discarded before battle anyway.

All of the following figures are rated as excellent in accuracy, anatomy and casting quality except where noted. Russians: three cossacks with particularly well done lances. Prussians: dragoon at rest, cuirassier trumpeter, von Kleist jaeger loading, dismounted dragoon firing (a little hunch-backed), and two horse artillerymen (no neck on one loading).

Hanoverians: drummer boy, musketeer standing firing, musketeer kneeling firing, jaeger firing (no cartouche and an inaccurate powder horn), horse trooper (holster should be filed square for most units, but is great dragoon as is). The marching grenadier is a bit thin and should not have shoulder wings.

Austrians: officers advancing with sword and marching with baton, drummer boy, cuirassier officer waving swords and NCO with halberd (blade needs work).

Hungarians: grenadier drummer, grenadier marching and grenadier advancing with musket parallel to ground. These grenadiers are fantastic and even have sabretaches.

There are so many new American Revolution figures that I won't attempt to list them. A great variety of frontiersmen and Indians are now available. Any light infantry unit or dismounted light dragoon can be represented. One should order these last figures as samples to make sure the headgear is the correct one for the unit that is being painted. There's a mounted British light dragoon that's also useful for the Seven Years War. The Continental light dragoon officer is wearing a hunting coat and holding a sword. The British Grenadier advancing is one of the finest wargame figures I've ever seen.

As always I highly recommend these ranges. The catalog is available from RSM, Ltd., 188 Woodland Avenue, Lexington, KY 40502. I believe the price is still 70 cents for foot and 90 cents for a horse. They accept VISA and Mastercard.
