Wargames Foundry

25mm Crimean War

review by David Raybin

Wargames Foundry has released the first 32 figures in the long-awaited Crimean War range. The figures are of the larger 25mm variety and are in scale with the other castings released by this company. The first release includes 16 British infantry in dress uniform worn during the early days of the conflict. Half of these figures are foot guards in bearskin headdress and the remaining figures represent the center company of the line. Each type includes infantry in various poses as well as drummers, standard bearers, and officers, both mounted and on foot. There are even two types of casualty figures.

The detail on each figure is astounding and would certainly qualify, by anyone's definition, as little works of art. The dress is historically accurate which is no small feat given the highly detailed regimental distinctions of the period. The other 16 figures are Russians who wear their greatcoat and are provided in both caps as well as helmets. Again, a variety of poses and specialty figures are offered which would allow one to have complete units immediately. The Russians are fierce in appearance and make worthy opponents to the British invaders. The range promises to have well over 100 figures which will eventually include artillery and cavalry. These figures are exceptional and set new standards for the designer's art. The range is available from Pendragon Miniatures, 1549 Marview Drive, Westlake, Ohio 44145.
