Mirliron

25mm French 1808 and Italian 1860

review by Jim Birdseye

Mirliton SG, tin soldiers, Grazzini Stefano. This Italian firm offers a wide variety of 25mm figures. I was impressed immediately with the style of these figures which included French 1808 Fusilier (FN11), an Italian Bersagliere 1860 (R127), an Italian Garibaldino 1860 (R132) and an Italian Artilleryman 1860 (RI23) all from the Italian Risorgimento and the Wars of Italian Unification. Included with the figures was a catalog of the entire line which includes Ancients, Napoleonic, Renaissance and Medieval.

Judging from the illustrations and the figures provided, these are excellent figures. The Italian infantrymen from the Risorgimento are outstanding in proportion, equipment, animation and detail. These are little pieces of art that reflect the highest standards of European craftsmanship. The figures are slightly larger than 25mm but well within acceptable size. The weapons are especially nice and are the proper length. Short weapons have detracted from other companies' figures for this period. Italian wargamers must be pleased to game with these high qualityfigures. The only information I did not receive with the figures and the catalog was a price list. I can highly recommend these figures and I hope that some enterprising fellow or company works out an agreement to market these figures i n the US; until that time you can order samples and a catalog from the manufacturer at Mirliton SG, Via A. Grandi 7, Tavarnuzzo Firenze, Italy or by phone at (055) 202 04 82.
