Field of Arms

Scenarios for Mediaeval Wargames

by Chris Parker

Folio report style binder made up of 22 single sided pages including color cover. This is a scenario booklet that covers 6 famous Mediaeval battles. Lincoln AD 1141, Lake Peipus AD 1242, Durbe AD 1260, Marchfield AD 1278, Grunwald AD 1410, Agincourt AD 1415. Each is presented in a similar form with a brief bio. leading up to and of the battle.

All include maps and orders of battle. The latter are often broken down by literary source when the data was available. The introduction is nice and describes the troop types so that players can adjust them into their own rules sets. The introduction finishes with a nice time line of historical battles from AD1055 to AD1435. According to the author “This small collection of historical battles, converted to tabletop use for wargamers wishing to recreate them in miniature, emphasizes playability more than historical accuracy of these engagements.” and “The scenarios presented have all been extensively play-tested using at least three different rules sets.” (These sets are not mentioned). Troop types are defined as Heavy, Medium, Light, and Cavalry. An example of a partial OOB for the Battle of Lincoln would be as follows. Royalist Center - 31 figures of Yeoman Foot, Regular MI (Medium Infantry). Figure ratios vary form 40:1 to 100:1 depending on the scenario. Overall a nice booklet $9 US, add $3 for shipping outside of US. Available from Al Karasa; 2214 Cloverdale Drive, Fallston, MD 21047 or belgate@juno.com ; www.alsbooks.com
