20mm Vietnam Range NVA Troops

by Bill Rutherford

Britannia makes a wide range of 20mm Vietnam War figures including eight packs of North Vietnamese Army troops, ranging from a HQ group, through various infantry with AK-47s, to infantry weapons (LMG, light mortar, RPG team, recoil-less rifle crew) teams. These all follow the style that Brittannia’s become known for: 20H Barrett, lots of character, a bit squat, with lots of slightly exaggerated detail. They paint up well, in part, because of that detail… The quality of the detail is quite good, and the figures’ anatomy and posing are reasonably convincing, the former being consistent and the latter conservative, the troops looking hunkered down and tired. Troops are carrying equipment you’d expect – the RPG loader has an open bag with warheads; the command group includes a bugler; the LMG loader is carrying ammo…

The rest of the range includes US and VC troops, a variety of 20mm vehicles and heavy guns, and even a modular resin fire-base. Figure prices range from $.90 to $1.25 apiece. The infantry, at least, come in a variety of poses within an item number, e.g., my NVA3 “Advancing Infantry with AK-47” contained 3 different figures. These figures should be available, bagged in twos or threes, from your local game shop. If you can’t get them there, please contact the U.S. distributor for Britannia Miniatures, Combined Arms, Inc., at PO Box 2057, Warminster, PA 18974, by phone at (215) 635-2724, or visit them at their website at http://www.combinedarmsinc.com. If you game the Vietnam era in 20mm you should definitely take a look at these troops.
