This 66 page, spiral-bound book by Gordon Rottman.is a must if you've any interest in the USMC during WW II, from both a gaming and a historical viewpoint. The book starts with a description of USMC divisional organizations throughout the war, with TO&E charts for the D, E, F, G, and J (1947 vintage) divisions, including platoons for the infantry regiments and companies for all other assets. The next 10 pages provide brief divisional histories, listing component organizations and showing how divisional organizations evolved through the course of the war. The next section gives a similar treatment to the various brigades, tactical groups, and task forces. The final narrative section traces the organization and history of the various USMC regiments, including the Parachutists and Raiders.

There is a good, coherent description of the evolution of the squad and platoon organizations, along with personnel and equipment numbers. The final section of this work includes basic statistics and descriptions of the various weapons and vehicles used by the USMC during WW II.Also included is a useful list of acronyms and bibliography.

This is a very useful and readable volume for only $12.00. Recommended from RADIX Press, at 2314 Cheshire Lane, Houston, TX 77018-4023.
