Essex 15mm Franco-Prussians

Figures

Reviewed by Pat Condray

Wargames of Tridelphia is offering a comprehensive series of 1870-71 15mm figures with a supporting rules and scenarios (not reviewed.) The figures received are all French, and include early war (kepi and epaulettes) infantry in capote, later line infantry (no epaulettes) firing, Marines (actually probably matelots) advancing in sheepskin vest, Garde Nationale firing (tunic, no epaulettes.) These are good figures. In common with other lines from the same source, they are 15mm to the eye, and I would guess BM 15H, which is to say, well fed. The detail is good, as is the animation. Equipment looks correct. Of the cavalry, cuirassiers are well done two piece castings with raised sabers and a variety(which I like) of rather stocky but fast moving horses. I am less pleased with the chasseurs a cheval d'Afrique, who are one piece castings, rather stiffly riding long on what might be fat shetland ponies running in step. But there is no question that overall these figures will make accurate, attractive, and believable 1870-71 armies. Wargames address is Box 278, Rte 40 East, Tridelphia WV 26059
