I just picked up these three aircraft kits from Riveresco, the new kid on the block for 1/144th scale aircraft. Their range currently includes 16 WW I and 13 WW II aircraft kits. If the rest of the range is as good as these three, they'll bear close watching in the future. All three of the planes scale out well and are quite compatible with the existing Skytrex and Mamoli ranges. Further, Several of their numbers, including the three aircraft reviewed, have never been produced in this scale before! Overall shapes look good and the models – they ARE models, with separate fuselage halves, cowlings, pilots, etc. – go together well. The strutwork is the best I've seen in this scale (cleanly cast, STRAIGHT, and they fit!) and, other than a bit of light flash on the flying surfaces, they're quite clean right out of the bag. The twin rear gun on the Spad (a separate part) was a bit indistinctly cast, the strutwork and some exhaust stacks were a bit squarish in cross-section, and I thought the wing ribs on the Spad to be a bit heavier than I liked… Those were the only nits I could pick with these little gems. Single-seaters sell for $6.00 and two-seaters, for $8.00, which is a bargain in this scale. If WW I air gaming is your thing and 1/144 is your scale, you owe it to yourself to take a look at these. If you can't get them from your FLGS, Riveresco will happily sell to you direct. Their website is at http://www.halcyon.com/shamrock/welcome.html and includes color photos of all their wares. You can also contact them c/o John McEwan at 1119 San Francisco Ave. NE, Olympia, WA 98506.
