Peter Connolly for Oxford Do schoolchildren still read these kinds of books? Well who cares because I do? Lots of pictures of buildings, recreations of dress and artefacts make for a fascinating insight. The period covered is that of Herod the Great and his descendants. A rather outre topic perhaps but very well realised. The cover shows Herod's Gallic bodyguard as he visits the new Temple, a good example of the range of the book.
