This new resin model from Quad Scale follows the same pattern set by their earlier models - one piece airframe, with separate resin main landing gear, and white metal small parts, including the tail wheel, radio antenna, twin rear machine gun barrels, dive brakes, and horizontal tailplane struts. Production quality remains high with thin air plane trailing edges, neatly done raised surface detail, and clean molding throughout. Purists would argue for engraved panel lines, etc., but I think Quad Scale got it right. Properly weathered, the model's raised panel lines add an impression of detail visible from gaming ranges - 18" or more - that would be lacking if the panel lines were engraved. The casting quality's improved over Quad Scale's earlier releases - seam lines on the fuselage and wing leading edges are much more manageable. Dimensions are within a percent or so of the stated 1/115 scale. The only issue I'd take with this model is that the underside details are somewhat subdued: the radiators are undersized; there's no center bomb attachment (though the outer wing racks are there); and the underside of the airframe (wings included) seems a bit flattened. On the other hand, these are all in an area (the bottom) that'll be largely invisible when this Stuka is put to what I anticipate to be its main use - bombing troops on the game table. The instructions include plans for parts placement and are quite complete. Again, do as they say - rub the entire plane down with fine sandpaper and be sure to wash the lot to remove stray mold release, etc. This'll vastly improve the model's finish when you paint it. Priced at $10.50, Quad Scale's Stuka is reasonably priced and very attractive. It's available directly from the manufacturer, Schmid, at PO Box 384, Sewell, NJ 08080-0384. Well recommended.
