Peter Pig

15mm Gaz 4x4 Heavy Truck

Reviewed by Bill Rutherford

Peter Pig makes a wide range of vehicles for the WW II period as well as the Spanish Civil War. Many of the line duplicates that appearing elsewhere (One is REQUIRED to produce a Panzer IV, after all), but a pleasing number of items are unique to the line, including the Humber scout car (number 8-169), the Matilda I infantry tank (8-138), and the Gaz truck (8-145, illustrated). Peter Pig's vehicles run a little to the large end of the 15mm scale range, typically pushing 1/100th scale. Though most are made entirely of metal, the Gaz comes with a one-piece resin body and separate metal wheels, front axle/fender assembly, and rear axle. It cleaned up easily and went together without problems. The metal parts were quite clean and intact. The resin part suffered a few minor pits, but they were small enough to patch with a small dab of cyanoacrylate glue. I don't have any references for this truck (suggestions for Soviet softskin references would be appreciated!), and, indeed, Peter Pig doesn't even positively identify the model, but other models in the range for which I do have references all match their prototypes. Peter Pig vehicles are the most expensive of the 15mm ranges - the Gaz truck runs $7.65 and a Panzer IV runs about $8.75 - but they produce some nice models of vehicles that nobody else makes. Recommended. Available from your FLGS or from Brookfield Hobbies.
