I left this unit out of my original article in the Winter 2004 issue. The full official name includes references to artillery, machineguns and motorized vehicles. The formation of the unit arose from the fact that the Russians were short in the availability of motorized equipment and personnel trained to use modern weapons. The unit included armored Cars and other personnel trained to use artillery and machineguns. It was referred to as a Corps but was listed as ‘Division’ sized in regards to manpower. The unit arrived in Russia in December 1915. They fought in several battles and continued to fight with the White Army. The unit’s survivors crossed the border into China in March 1918. They were transported back to Belgium and arrived in July 1918. The unit arrived in Russia wearing the Belgian Khaki uniform with the Adrian helmet. Though the Belgians did not like the color the Khaki uniform was provided by the British. The Russians supplemented their men with winter clothing and greatcoats.
