Albania and the Albanian Legion

The territory of Albania had gained independence from the Turks as a result of the Balkan Wars. The political situation remained unstable with three main factions claiming power. During the war control shifted as Serbian, Italian and Austrian forces and advisors controlled various parts of the country. Serious fighting occurred between different Albanian factions but they also fought with Greeks in the south and Serbians as they advanced on Triana in 1920.

The Italians formed the Albanian Legion in 1916. it consisted of two battalions plus some irregular volunteers in scouting detachments. Their uniform consisted of and Italian style uniforms but it had replaced the cap with a white Albanian style skull cap.

The uniform of the Independent Albania forces in 1914-16 was light blue tunic and trousers with black equipment (belts0 and a black short fur cap.
