Radical elements of the Dervish cult raided extensively in Somaliland under the control of the ‘Mad Mullah’. Though many minor raids occurred throughout the war, the Dervish activity was viewed as a minor problem. The major wartime effort by the British was the assault on the Dervish in November 1914 and in February 1915 which resulted in the capture and destruction of the main Dervish base at Shimber Berris. It would not be until after the war in February 1920 before a concentrated British campaign to destroy the Dervish was conducted. World War I Unique and Forgotten Units and Their Uniforms
