Chronology of Key Events: 1829-33

1829

29 Jan, Martino, Lokris. Turks (3500) under Mahmut are defeated after bitter fighting.

21 May, Pyri, Thebes. Greeks (3000) defeat the Turkish (4000) garrison and capture Thebes.

2 June, Anephorites, Thebes. Greeks (800) defeat a Turk-Albanian force (2200)

10 June, Near Thebes. Turkish Cavalry patrol (300) defeated by Greek (200) cavalry.

6 July, Agios Iaonnes. Turkish probe (2000) halted at Greek fortified positions.

Sept Nerokuro. Greeks defeat a small Ottoman column.

12 or 20 Sept Petra Pass. Greeks (2500) surround and defeat a raiding force of Albanians + Turks (5000). This is the LAST BATTLE between Greek and Ottoman troops.

1830-1833

For the next few years serious skirmishes are fought by various factions with the government troops, foreign troops and each other.

21 Dec 1831, Argos. Serious factional fighting between Suilots, Morelots and Rumeliots.

23 Dec 1831, Argos. Government troops are sent to Argos to expell Rumeliots (1200). Heavy fighting occurs before the Rumeliots are ejected.

In 1832 and 1833 heavy factional fighting occurs throughout the country. Every group is involved. Many towns which were in the process of rebuilding are destroyed again.

Jan 1833 Argos. French troops (3 companies = 400) are attacked by Armatoli.
