Game: DAKAllies: Maurice Buttazoni Report by: Maurice Buttazoni At right: DAK with Maurice and Bill War Story: Here is the December 1940 to February 1941 turns of the game Bill Quoss (Axis) and I (Allies) played at HomerCon. December 1940: By mid December the 4 Indian Div. and 6 Australian Div. had made it to the front and were sent forward with orders to take Tobruk. It wasn't going to be easy with the Italians dug in with about 4 Divisions and a lot of miscellaneous troops. Because of a mistake on my part, trucks were still getting in to Tobruk, bringing extra supply for the big Italian guns. The attacks started of miserably in December with 4 of my 8 attack dice rolls coming up snake-eyes. Despite this I had broken through the line and had isolated Tobruk as an Italian supply source. January 1941: I had taken a lot of losses, but it was too late to stop. With 1 more week of attacks, Tobruk had fallen by Jan 8 1941, and what was left of the Italians were making a mad dash for Benghazi. Now I faced a tough decision. Of the 6 Brigades in the 4 Ind and 6 Aus Divisions, 5 had taken hits, so I was effectively at 1/2 strength. Trying to take Benghazi would definitely cause more losses and I wasn't sure I could afford that. So after a meek attempt at cutting off Benghazi with the 7 Arm Div. and 6 Aus Div, I retreated back to Tobruk and Gazala and licked my wounds. Not taking Benghazi would cause me problems in March 1941 though. February 1941: February was a rest and refit month for both sides. Although technically I didn't receive any replacements the lull in the fighting gave us a well needed mental break. Other Remarks: Maurice and Bill recorded their positions before picking up the game so they could continue the campaign (Ed.). More HomerCon
