Wargames Foundry

25mm Marlborough

by Ken Bunger

Wargames Foundry has released the cavalry and artillery for their 25mm Marlborough range. They are as superb as the foot figures of this range.

There are four artillerymen in open coats and unqueued hair. The gun is absolutely fantastic. It's accurately scaled, and therefore huge. The barrel, with perfect "dauphins" sculpted on top, is 58mm long.

Seven mounted cavalry are available. An officer has a sash over his right shoulder and sword to his side. The cuirassier has full cuirass, slung musket and unqueued hair. The two horse troopers, one with cuirass under coat, have muskets slung and hair tied. The dragoon wears a tricorne, has hair tied and holds a musket. A standard bearer has full cuirass and long hair. The trumpeter is superb with the lace lines actually engraved. All coats are open. The four horses have the horse furniture molded on them. All horses have the same housings, holsters and blanket rolls. I mix the types together for the best effect.

To add flexibility, each cuirassier and horse trooper comes with four separate right arms. There are two with pistols and two with swords. if you use the arm holding a pistol, remember to cut off the pistol in the holster on the horse. My only real criticism is that the bases of the figures are too small, particularly those of the horses. Also the range could use a couple more mounted generals for variety.

As I've mentioned in previous reviews, these are large 25mm figures measuring 25mm from shoe to eyeball. These are among the best wargame figures ever produced, and I highly recommend them.

[Reviewer's note to Franco-Prussian collectors: Use the Marlborough horse for the French officer (FPCavl) by cutting pistol butts from holsters.]
