Stone Mountain

15mm American Revolution

by Ken Bunger

Stone Mountain Miniatures has released a comprehensive range of 15mm figures forthe American Revolution designed and sculpted byjim McCarron. This range mirrors their 25mm range of the same period. it includes over thirty-five different packs. Each pack contains twenty foot, eight cavalry or four guns. The foot packs contain either all privates, or, at your option, may have sixteen privates, two officers, a drummer and a standard bearer. Each pack sells for $4.75.

The figures are cast in good quality pliable metal with very little flash. There is a lot of very fine detail on the figures. The accuracy of the uniforms is excellent. The figures are 15mm from shoe to eyeball which is abouta millimeter taller than Minifigs or Frontier, but somewhat thinner. The figures are nicely animated.

The standard bearers have staffs, with separate metal flags provide The flags are very nicely engraved, but are too small. The officers have either a sword or an excellent spontoon. Most of the foot figures, except the Hessians, wear packsontheir backs. The Hessians are useful for the Seven Years War, as well. The Highlanders are in kilts, but I suspect that figures in trews will soon be available. If you order British musketeers specify that you want the drummers in the fur caps. The cavalry are one-piece castings. The guns are very good. The six pounder I received for review had the appropriate side boxes.

I suggest mixing different packs together to give a motley look to the Americans. The figure advancing bare-headed (ARV11) works well for this.

The full catalog is available for two dollars from Stone Mountain Miniatures, P.O. Box 594, Dept. 61, Broomfield, CO 80020-0594. Visa or Mastercard is accepted.
