Osprey Booklet #183

Modern Africa Wars 1:
Rhodesia 1965-1980

by Bill Rutherford

Text by Abbott and Botham, plates by Mike Chappell, osprey Pub. Ltd., London, 1986, 48pp, illus., 0.95. This book is a brief overview of the Rhodesian War up through the election of Robert Mugabe, and of the units and equipment involved in the war. In the first part of the book, a short account of the war itself is given, with a description of the means and plans employed by both sides. The balance of the book describes the organization, units, and operations of the units of both the Security Forces and the Patriotic Front Forces engaged during the war. The color plates and the extensive photographic coverage (primarily of Security Forces) provide much arcane detail of the protagonists' equipment, while the text provides much insight as to how this war was fought.

This is primarily of interest to the gamer of modern small unit actions, and is recommended.
