Waterloo Miniatures (4803 Burning Springs Dr., Arlington, TX 76017) recently sent The Courier ESCI's 1/72 scale British Infantry set covering the Waterloo period. These are probably the best plastic figures I've ever seen. They are cleanly cast without the flash that so marred Airfix plastic figures. They tend to be a little tall and thin but do have quite reasonable animation. Although I tried a variety of preparation methods, my Airfix figures always shed their paint after a year or so of use. I don't know if ESCI has solved this problem (anyone out there who knows, please write). If they have, then they present a nice alternative to the expense of metal figures. The faces are detailed, the kilts show a pattern for ease of painting, and the equipment is sharply outlined. included in the set are line infantry, highlanders, some riflemen lying down, and command and casualty figures. Fifty figures are provided for a mere $3.00. If you want a quick, cheap army, you might consider ESCI. Waterloo Miniatures also sells Rosselot plates, Tradition and Willie figures, and Osprey books.Send two dollars for a catalogue.
