Frontier Miniatures

Seminole War Booklet

Reviewed by Ken Bunger

Frontier Miniatures has published a forty-four page booklet entitled, Seminole War by Ron D. Jamro. About half of this excellent booklet is devoted to weapons and dress. The remainder contains a brief description of the many small actions in chronology format. Each description gives the situation and strength of both sides. Therefore, one has the basic information for at least forty wargame scenarios. There is a good bibliography, although I believe Mahon has recently updated his excellent History of the Second Seminole War originally published in 1967. This booklet is one of the better of the wargame guides that Frontier has published. I can highly recommend it for $5.00.

I'd also remind readers of Frontier's 25mm Seminole range which is up to their now standard excellent quality. SW1 Negro warriorin hunringshirt is waving hatchet and carrying musket at trail. SW2 Negro advancing with Musket in shirt in tails. This is a great figure useful for colonials. SW3 Mounted Seminole in buckskins and turban with musket, SW4 Seminole advancing in buckskins (also paints as hunting smock) and turban. SW5 Seminole firing is dressed as above. SW6 Seminole attacking with axe in loin cloth only is bare-headed with distinctive long scalplocks. SW7 Seminole firing bow in hunting shirt and bare-headed. SW8 American sailor advancing with musket is wearing the black tarpaulin hat with black ribbon. This is an extremely useful figure perfect for the Naval campaign in California during the Mexican War.

For the U.S. Army, and volunteer units, the extensive Mexican War and Alamo ranges of Frontier are perfect. The only item lacking is a figure in the tall 1833 issue leather collapsible forage cap. For the earlier 1817 campaign, various frontiersmen from AMR ranges, and the War of 1812 range infantry would be useful.

Each pack of figures is $5.50 and are available from Frontier Miniatures, 7343 Branding Iron, Canutillo,TX 79835,(915) 877-3048. They now takeVisa and Mastercard. The new catalog has hundreds of figures.
