Alliance Miniatures

15mm Napoleonics

Reviewed by Jim Arnold

As reported in these pages, the 15mm Napoleonics produced by Alliance Miniatures (P.O. Box 2347, Des Moines, Iowa 50310) is expanding. A full range of Prussians for the 1812-1815 period is now available. The basic fusilier/musketeer in the advancing position is a sturdy, stern little fellow. As with other figures in this range the shako is overly large for the head. Excepting this, he presents a very nicefigure. His bayonet, subjected to my several twists and turns, did not break (like the real soldiers' bayonets that could be easily bent to support soup pots over an open fire or to use as hooks to drag the Nile for booty from fallen Mamalukes!). Folds and button holes are cleanly cast. The hussar figure is also well sculpted with one major problem; the sword arm and sword are molded into the horse's neck. This prevents one from changing the arm position to a different position and does not look realistic. The Guard Foot soldier is quite nice; the Lifeguard Hussar has the same problem as the line hussar. Jagers and men of the landwehr are available including musicians and standard bearers. There do not appear to be any reserve infantry or freicorps types. Individual foot figures are $.25, mounted, $.50. Discounts are available when ordered in bulk.
